NEET PG 2025
AIQ
MAMC, GTB, Safdarjung, LHMC — all through MCC AIQ, not Delhi state counselling
Delhi's premium PG hospitals are 100% MCC AIQ institutions. Delhi state PG counselling is separate and covers a small set of colleges. If your target is MAMC or Safdarjung, you plan through MCC — not Delhi DME. — Formity's editorial note.
200
Delhi state PG counselling covers only ~200 seats across counselling
The Delhi DME state pool is small. Most Delhi-based NEET PG capacity sits in MCC AIQ. This means if you miss MCC Delhi seats, the state counselling fallback is thin. Plan your MCC preferences carefully.
3
Delhi has 3 distinct counselling bodies: MCC AIQ, IP University, and Delhi UT
Delhi PG complexity comes from 3 overlapping systems. MAMC/GTB/Safdarjung = MCC. VMMC/SJH/ABVIMS = ESIC/MCC exception category. ACMS = IP University. GMC-type UT seats = Delhi DME. Knowing which body governs your target seat is non-negotiable.

How counselling works for you

You are in 2 counselling processes.

  • MCC — All India Quota, DNB and NBE seats, every deemed seat. About half the seats.
  • Your state — its own state-quota seats. About the other half.

Separate registration for each. Separate dates. Separate fee.

In Delhi, Faculty of Medical Sciences (FMSC), University of Delhi + Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) (FMSC / GGSIPU) holds your state seats — 4 rounds (Round 1, Round 2, Mop-Up Round (Round 3), Stray Vacancy Round (Offline)).

The steps, in order:

  1. Registration — pay the fee, create your account on the portal (MCC or your state’s).
  2. Choice filling — you rank every seat you would actually join, in the order you want it.
  3. Lock — choices close at a fixed deadline; the list is frozen, no more edits or reordering after.
  4. Allotment — the system goes straight down your list and gives you the first seat still open at your rank.
  5. Freeze or Float — accept and stop (Freeze), or stay in line for something higher while your current seat is held (Float).
  6. Report + deposit — verify documents, pay the seat deposit.
  7. Later rounds — Round 2, Round 3 (mop-up), and a stray-vacancy round fill what is left; floating carries you into the next round automatically.
  8. Upgrade / exit — you can move up in a later round, or step away — but only Round 1 lets you leave without losing the deposit.

2026 change on MCC seats: After each allotment you now choose Freeze or Float. Freeze = accept and stop: you report once at the allotted college for document verification and fee, and you’re done. Float = accept but stay in line for a higher choice: under the 2026 reform you do not report physically while floating — your provisional admission stays valid online as you take the next rounds. Upgradation is open up to Round 3; after Round 3 anyone still holding a seat reports physically to finish.

This reform is MCC’s own — it covers AIQ, deemed and central seats only. Delhi’s own counselling (held by FMSC / GGSIPU) sets its own process; check with them for how upgrades work on your state seats.

Each has separate registration, fee payment, and allotment schedules. You may need to register for all 3 + NBE (for DNB) — that's 4 separate counselling registrations for a single city.

Key Insights
Section 8

Key Insights

What makes Delhi PG counselling unique.

No State Quota
Delhi does not have a "state quota" in the traditional sense. DU, IPU, and MCC quotas are all open to All India candidates. This makes Delhi equally accessible to domicile and non-domicile aspirants — rare among Indian states.
Top 5 Close Under Rank 400
VMMC (46), RML (30), MAMC (75), Lady Hardinge (107), UCMS (319) — all close within top 400 for their best speciality. Only AIIMS Delhi is more competitive. Getting any Delhi government PG seat requires a very strong rank.
DNB as a Real Alternative
With 496 DNB seats across 71 hospitals, Delhi's DNB network is massive. Sir Ganga Ram (rank 428) closes tighter than many state government colleges. For ranks 500-5,000, Delhi DNB is a genuine alternative to government PG.
Living Expenses Factor
Govt stipend (Rs 1.2-1.36L/month) looks good but accommodation near major hospitals runs Rs 15-25K/month. PG hostels are limited. Factor in Rs 3-5L annual living expenses over stipend.
AFMS Seats
Delhi has AFMS (Armed Forces Medical Services) seats at Army Hospital R&R and Base Hospital. These require military service eligibility and are counselled separately. Excellent training but limited to defence personnel.
Muslim Minority Quota
Hamdard Institute (deemed) and Jamia Hamdard have MM quota seats. These are specifically for Muslim minority candidates and counselled through MCC deemed counselling.
