Common questions — Telangana counselling

How does NEET UG counselling work in Telangana?
Telangana runs its own MBBS counselling through Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences, Telangana (KNRUHS). It covers ~85% of government seats and all private MBBS colleges across 4 rounds. Separate from MCC AIQ (which handles ~15% of govt seats).
What is the difference between AIQ and Telangana state counselling?
AIQ (MCC) uses your All India Rank and covers ~15% of govt seats + all deemed colleges — no domicile barrier. Telangana state counselling uses a separate state rank and covers ~85% of govt seats + all private colleges. Most families file only AIQ and miss the larger state pool.
Can non-domicile students apply in Telangana?
Telangana is an open state — non-domicile candidates can apply for OPN/management seats at private colleges.
What is the domicile requirement for Telangana NEET counselling?
Telangana domicile: Must have studied 4 consecutive years including Class 12 in Telangana, OR parents permanent residents of Telangana. Government colleges (35, ~3,500 seats): • 85% state quota: Telangana domicile ONLY • 15% AIQ: Through MCC, open to all states • Fee: ₹14,000-25,000/yr Private colleges (27, ~4,200 seats) — 3 categories: • Category A (50% convener): Telangana domicile ONLY, fee ₹60,000/yr (uniform) • Category B (35% management): - B2 (85% of B): Telangana LOCAL only — GO.Ms.No.130 (Sept 2022) - B1 (15% of B = ~5% of total): ALL INDIA — open to non-domicile Fee: ₹11.55L-14.5L/yr • Category C / NRI (15%): Open to NRI/OCI/PIO from any state Fee: ₹23.1L-28L/yr (college-specific) Non-domicile access — VERY RESTRICTIVE: • B1 seats (~5% of private = ~189 seats total): ✅ All India • NRI seats (15% = ~563 seats): ✅ NRI-sponsored • Everything else: ❌ Telangana domicile only • GO.Ms.No.130 (2022) reserved 85% of B-category for locals — before this, all B was open Premium colleges for NRI: Apollo (₹26L), Kamineni Academy (₹26L), Kamineni Institute (₹26L) Muslim minority: Deccan, Shadan, Dr VRK Womens, Ayaan — Muslim community preference

About Telangana NEET UG counselling

Telangana conducts its own NEET UG MBBS admissions through the Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences, Telangana (KNRUHS). This is entirely separate from MCC's All India Quota (AIQ) process. AIQ handles approximately 15% of government seats and all deemed university seats across India, with no domicile requirement. Telangana's own counselling handles the remaining ~85% of government seats within the state, plus all private MBBS colleges. It runs across 4 rounds: Round 1 / Phase 1, Round 2 / Phase 2, Mop-Up Round, Stray Vacancy Round (institutional).

The key difference most candidates miss: your AIR (All India Rank) determines your AIQ position. Telangana's counselling runs on a separate state rank — in most states this is more accessible than AIQ for domicile candidates. For example, Gandhi Medical College, Secunderabad closes at approximately 2,909 via AIQ, but 14,005 via Telangana state counselling.

Bond: Telangana requires a rural service bond of No compulsory UG service bond for government MBBS seats. The penalty for breaking the bond is Rs 20,00,000 (only for seat discontinuation). Telangana does NOT have a mandatory UG service bond. Discontinuation penalty: Rs 20L.
