Delhi NEET UG 2026: 21 New MBBS Seats, Rs 3L Bond, and the 85% Rule Most Families Miss

Delhi University NEET UG 2026: 660 MBBS seats (21 new), Rs 3L surety bond, 85% Delhi quota rules, 98 AIQ seats, NGOI central pool. From FMSC DU official bulletin.
Delhi University has released the Information Bulletin for MBBS/BDS admissions 2026-27. Three things every NEET aspirant targeting Delhi should know. ## 21 new MBBS seats Delhi University added 21 MBBS seats for 2026-27: - **LHMC** (Lady Hardinge): 225 to 240 seats (+15). Women only. - **MAMC** (Maulana Azad): 244 to 250 seats (+6). - **UCMS**: 170 seats (unchanged). - **Total DU MBBS: 660 seats** (was 639). More seats means slightly lower closing ranks. At MAMC, which closed at rank 58 in AIQ 2025, 6 additional seats could shift the closing by 10-15 ranks. Not dramatic, but real. ## The 85% Delhi Quota rule This is what most out-of-Delhi families miss: **85% of DU seats are reserved for Delhi domicile students.** Only 15% go through All India Quota (98 seats across 3 colleges). To qualify for the 85% Delhi quota, you must have studied 11th AND 12th in a school within the National Capital Territory of Delhi. CBSE board from a Delhi school counts. CBSE board from a school outside Delhi does not. If you are from outside Delhi, you are competing for **98 AIQ seats** across MAMC, LHMC, and UCMS. That is a different competition entirely. ## Rs 3 Lakh Surety Bond Every DU medical student signs a Rs 3 lakh surety bond with two guarantors at the time of admission. If you leave the course before completion, the bond is forfeited. Your original certificates are held by the college until you either complete the course or pay the bond. This is not a deposit you get back. It is a commitment. ## What this means for your counselling If you are targeting Delhi colleges through AIQ: - You are competing for 98 MBBS seats (not 660). - LHMC AIQ has 36 seats (women only). MAMC AIQ has 37. UCMS AIQ has 25. - The Rs 3L bond means this is a permanent decision. If you join and then get a better college in Round 2 elsewhere, you lose the bond. - No migration is allowed. Once admitted to a DU college, you cannot transfer. If you are a Delhi domicile student: - 541 seats in the Delhi 85% quota. Competition is within Delhi only. - You still register through MCC (mcc.nic.in), not through DU directly. - Your school must be within NCT of Delhi. Study center matters, not residence. ## NGOI: 21 Central Pool seats 21 seats are reserved under the Nominee of Government of India scheme: 6 at MAMC, 15 at LHMC. These are for defence wards, para-military children, children of Indian diplomats abroad, Tibetan refugees, terrorism-affected civilians, and national bravery award winners. Applications go through the respective ministries, not through MCC. --- *Source: Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Delhi — Information Bulletin for UG (MBBS/BDS) Admission 2026-27.
