Telangana NEET PG 2025
State Counselling Guide

142 institutes · 60 specialities · KNRUHS counselling · CQ + MQ + DNB + Deemed data

277 govt seats
492 DNB/private seats
296 deemed seats
60 specialities
Section 1

Counselling Structure

KNRUHS conducts Telangana PG counselling. Know the quota structure before you start.

CQ
Competent Authority Quota
50% of seats in government + private colleges. Conducted by KNRUHS in phases. Includes MD, MS, PG Diploma.
Eligibility: Telangana domicile (completed MBBS from TS or 10+ years residency). Category reservation applies.
MQ
Management Quota
Split into MQ1 (25% — open merit), MQ2 (15% — NRI), MQ3 (10% — institutional). Private colleges only.
Eligibility: MQ1 = any NEET PG qualified. MQ2 = NRI/NRI ward. MQ3 = institutional preference. Open to non-domicile.
DNB
DNB / NBE Diploma
492 seats across 120 hospitals. Counselled by NBE (not KNRUHS). Corporate hospitals dominate.
Eligibility: All India — any NEET PG qualified candidate. No domicile restriction.
NRI
Deemed / NRI
296 seats at Malla Reddy IMS + Malla Reddy (Women). MNG + NRI quota under MCC counselling.
Eligibility: MNG = all India open merit. NRI = NRI/OCI/PIO ward. Counselled via MCC.
Section 2

5 BC Sub-types Matter for PG Too
Unlike most states that club all OBC into one bucket, Telangana splits BC into 5 sub-groups (A through E) with distinct percentages. BC-B gets the highest share at 10%, while BC-C gets just 1%. This means your specific BC sub-type determines your competition pool — a BC-C candidate competes for far fewer seats than BC-B. Always verify your sub-group from your caste certificate.
Total BC reservation: 29% (7+10+1+7+4)

Horizontal reservations for women, PwD, CAP, NCC, sports also apply within each vertical category. SC was split into 3 groups for UG in 2025 — PG applicability is pending KNRUHS notification.

NIMS vs Osmania vs Gandhi
NIMS Hyderabad is the most competitive — General Medicine closes at rank 76, Radiology at 98. But it charges Rs 72K/year (vs Rs 15K at Osmania/Gandhi) and has lower stipend-to-fee ratio. Osmania is the largest with 93 AIQ seats across all major specialities. Gandhi MC closes slightly after Osmania for most branches. ESIC Sanathnagar has higher fees (Rs 2.5L) but offers the highest stipend (Rs 1.3L/month).

Ranks shown are AIQ (All India Quota) closing ranks — R1 2025 data. State quota CQ closing ranks are typically 2-3x higher for the same college.

Section 4

Speciality-wise Rank Ranges

Government college AIQ closing ranks by speciality. The range tells you the spread from top to peripheral colleges.

Speciality Best Rank Best At Widest Rank Colleges
General Medicine 76 NIMS, Hyderabad 3,399 14

Clinical branches (Medicine, Radiology, Dermatology) close within top 5,000. Para-clinical branches (Pathology, Pharmacology) go well beyond 30,000. Newer GMCs (Mahabubnagar, Ramagundam) have limited seats but offer an entry point at higher ranks.

Section 5

DNB Hospitals

Why Hyderabad DNB Matters
Hyderabad's corporate hospital ecosystem — Yashoda, Apollo, KIMS, Krishna, Care, Continental — makes it one of India's top 3 DNB hubs. These seats are counselled by NBE (not KNRUHS), so no domicile restriction. Closing ranks are competitive: Radiology at Yashoda/Krishna closes around 2,500-4,500. Fee data shows Rs 1.25L (NBE placeholder) — actual training fees vary by hospital and are typically higher.
DNB = All India open — no domicile needed
Section 6

DNB Speciality Rank Ranges

Where do popular DNB specialities close across Hyderabad hospitals?

Speciality Best Rank Best Hospital Widest Rank Hospitals
Radio Diagnosis 2,390 Yashoda Hosp,SPRd,Secunderabad 6,776 18
General Medicine 3,098 AIG Hospital, Hyderabad 13,757 27

Anaesthesiology 22,734 Krishna IMS, Secunderabad 34,637 20
Emergency Medicine 19,393 AIG Hospital, Hyderabad 30,462 9

DNB Radio Diagnosis is the most competitive DNB speciality (closes at ~2,400). Orthopaedics is surprisingly high (26K+) because most DNB hospitals don't offer surgical training at the same volume as govt colleges.

Deemed Fee Reality Check
Malla Reddy MNG fees range from Rs 25L (Psychiatry/Radiation Oncology) to Rs 65L (Dermatology) per year for a 3-year course. NRI fees are 1.5-2x higher, going up to Rs 1.29Cr/year for Dermatology. These are among the highest PG fees in India. MNG seats close at 40K-90K ranks — accessible to those who can't get government seats but can afford private deemed fees.
Section 8

Fee Structure

Fees vary dramatically by college type and quota.

Government (CQ)
Rs 15,000/year at Osmania, Gandhi, Kakatiya, Nizamabad, Siddipet, Suryapet, Nalgonda, RIMS Adilabad.

Rs 72,000/year at NIMS Hyderabad (autonomous institute, higher fee but better infrastructure).

Rs 1.25L/year at district hospitals and newer GMCs.

Rs 2.5L/year at ESIC Sanathnagar (central govt, different fee structure).
Private (MQ)
Private college MQ fees in Telangana are regulated by the Tuition Fee Fixation Committee. Clinical branches typically charge Rs 15-25L/year for MQ seats.

MQ1 (25% open merit) is most accessible. MQ2 (NRI) and MQ3 (institutional) have higher fee slabs.
DNB (Private Hospitals)
NBE-listed fee is Rs 1.25L/year (placeholder — actual hospital fees differ). Corporate hospitals like Yashoda, Apollo, KIMS charge training fees separately.

DNB fees are generally lower than deemed MNG but vary widely by hospital reputation and speciality.
Deemed (Malla Reddy)
MNG: Rs 25L-65L/year depending on speciality. Dermatology and Radiology at the top, Psychiatry and Radiation Oncology at the bottom.

NRI: Rs 73L-1.29Cr/year. Among the highest PG fees in India.
Section 9

Stipend & Bond

Government PG seats come with stipend but also a mandatory service bond.

50686
Min Govt Stipend / Month
District hospitals and newer GMCs. Junior residents at peripheral centres.
130653
Max Govt Stipend / Month
ESIC Sanathnagar offers the highest stipend among Telangana PG institutes — Rs 1.3L/month with 2-year service bond.
Rs 20L
Bond Penalty (Most Govt)
NIMS, Osmania, Gandhi, Kakatiya, and most state GMCs require a 1-year service bond with Rs 20L penalty if not served. Service is typically in rural/underserved areas.
Rs 10L
ESIC Bond Penalty
ESIC has a separate 2-year service bond at Rs 10L penalty. Lower penalty but longer service commitment. Central govt posting, not state rural service.
Bond Calculation for Telangana
Most Telangana government PG seats carry a 1-year rural service bond at Rs 20L penalty. This is relatively moderate compared to states like Maharashtra (Rs 50L+) or Gujarat (Rs 1Cr+). DNB and deemed seats have no state service bond — only the institutional bond, if any. For CQ (state quota) seats, bond compliance is tracked by KNRUHS.

Private hospital (DNB) stipend ranges from Rs 15000 to Rs 130653/month. Deemed (Malla Reddy) offers ~Rs 45,000/month stipend.

Section 10

Key Insights

What makes Telangana PG counselling unique — and what to watch out for.

Phase System (CQ)
KNRUHS conducts CQ counselling in multiple phases — not rounds. Each phase has separate registration, web options, and allotment. Mop-up and stray vacancy rounds follow. Total 4-5 phases in a typical year.
Non-Domicile Options
CQ = domicile only. But MQ1 (25% open merit), DNB (all seats), and deemed MNG (all seats) are open to non-domicile. Hyderabad's DNB ecosystem is the biggest draw for non-domicile PG aspirants.
MQ Split
Management quota in private colleges splits into MQ1 (25%), MQ2 (15% NRI), MQ3 (10% institutional). MQ1 is merit-based via KNRUHS counselling. MQ2/MQ3 are through separate channels.
DNB vs MD/MS
DNB from top Hyderabad hospitals (Apollo, Yashoda, KIMS) is increasingly valued — clinical exposure at these centres often exceeds smaller govt colleges. But DNB thesis and practical exam format differs from university MD/MS.
New GMCs
Telangana added several new govt medical colleges (Mahabubnagar, Ramagundam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Siddipet). Seat counts are still low, but these offer an entry point at higher ranks for domicile candidates.
NIMS Advantage
NIMS Hyderabad is the most competitive institute in Telangana PG — rank 76 for Medicine, 98 for Radiology. Higher fee (Rs 72K vs Rs 15K) but autonomous status, better facilities, and higher stipend (Rs 1.17L/month).
