Counselling Structure

JCECEB (Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board) conducts state PG counselling using CML (Combined Merit List).

DNB / NBE Diploma
109 DNB seats at hospitals. NBE counselling. No private medical colleges exist for PG in Jharkhand.
Eligibility: All India. No domicile restriction for DNB.

Jharkhand splits OBC into BC-I (12%) and BC-II (14%). BC-I corresponds to more backward among OBC, while BC-II is the relatively less backward segment. This is similar to Bihar's system. ST at 26% is the second highest in India (after Chhattisgarh at 32%), reflecting the large tribal population (Santhal, Munda, Ho, Oraon). Combined SC/ST/BC reservation exceeds 60%.

RIMS Ranchi — Jharkhand's Premier Institute
RIMS Ranchi (Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences) is a state government institute (not central/AIIMS) and Jharkhand's premier PG centre with the full range of clinical and para-clinical specialities. It draws the most competitive closing ranks. Newer GMCs at Hazaribagh, Palamu, and Dumka are adding PG seats gradually. No private medical colleges exist for PG — Jharkhand PG is entirely government.

Key Insights

CML State Merit
JCECEB uses CML (Combined Merit List) based purely on NEET PG score for state quota counselling. No separate state exam. Category reservation applies within the CML.
High Tribal Reservation
26% ST reservation means tribal candidates (Santhal, Munda, Ho, Oraon) have excellent PG access in Jharkhand. BC-I/BC-II together add another 26%. This is one of the highest combined reservation states.
Tata Main Hospital DNB
Tata Main Hospital Jamshedpur is one of India's premier corporate hospitals for DNB training. It offers clinical exposure on par with top metro hospitals, accessible via NBE counselling with no domicile restriction.
No Private PG — Govt Only
Jharkhand has no private medical colleges for PG. All MD/MS seats are at government colleges only. RIMS Ranchi (state govt, not central) dominates, with newer GMCs still building PG capacity. DNB seats at hospitals like Tata Main are the only non-government option.
