Counselling Structure

DMER (Directorate of Medical Education & Research) Goa conducts state PG counselling. GMC Bambolim is the only government PG centre.

50% of GMC Bambolim PG seats. Goa domicile required. Small state means very few state quota seats per speciality.
Eligibility: Goa domicile (15-year residency certificate). NEET PG qualified. Category reservation applies.
AIQ
All India Quota
50% of GMC Bambolim seats under MCC counselling. Open to all India.
Eligibility: Any NEET PG qualified. No domicile restriction.

Goa's 12% ST reservation reflects the Goan tribal communities (Velip, Gaude, Kunbi). With only 30 total PG seats, the actual ST PG seats in state quota are just a handful — making competition within ST extremely concentrated. SC at just 2% is one of India's lowest. The 47% unreserved pool is relatively generous compared to states with 60%+ total reservation.

Key Insights

Only 1 College — GMC Goa
GMC Bambolim (Goa Medical College) is the only PG medical college in Goa. No private PG exists. All state quota PG seats are concentrated here. With only ~30 seats, each speciality has very few positions. Keep it simple — your only decision is AIQ vs state quota.
Quality of Life
Goa offers excellent quality of life for PG residents. Good climate, safe environment, and coastal location. GMC Bambolim is well-equipped and Goa Medical College Hospital is a major referral centre for the region.
Moderate Competition
Despite few seats, Goa's PG closing ranks via AIQ tend to be moderate for non-clinical branches. The location attracts candidates willing to accept slightly higher ranks for the quality of life advantage.
