5 BC Sub-types — Same as Telangana
AP and Telangana share the same 5 BC sub-groups (A through E) — a legacy of the undivided state. BC-B gets the highest share at 10%, while BC-C gets just 1%. Your specific BC sub-type determines your competition pool. BC-A includes communities like Gowda, Kammara; BC-B includes Yadava, Are; BC-D includes Padmasali, Devanga. Always verify your sub-group from your community certificate issued by AP authorities.
Total BC reservation: 29% (7+10+1+7+4) | Total reserved: 60%

AP follows a Local/Non-Local rule based on Presidential Order for domicile. Candidates who studied 4+ years in AP are "local" for respective region (Coastal Andhra, Rayalaseema, Uttarandhra). This further sub-divides state quota seats.

Andhra Medical vs Guntur vs Kurnool
Andhra Medical College (AMC), Visakhapatnam is AP's most prestigious government medical college — the most competitive for PG admissions. Guntur Medical College is the largest PG centre in the state, strong across both clinical and surgical branches. Kurnool Medical College and Siddhartha Medical College, Vijayawada follow closely. Newer colleges at Srikakulam, Nandyal, and Eluru expand access at higher ranks.

Ranks shown are AIQ (All India Quota) closing ranks — R1 2025 data. State quota CQ closing ranks through NTRUHS are typically 2-3x higher for the same college.

Fee Structure

Fees in AP vary by college type, quota, and AFRC regulation.

Government (CQ)
Government college fees: Rs 15,000 to Rs 1.25L/year depending on the institute.

Top colleges like AMC Visakhapatnam and Guntur MC charge at the lower end. SVIMS Tirupati (autonomous) has a different fee structure.
Private (CQ + MQ)
Private college fees regulated by AFRC (Andhra Pradesh Fee Regulatory Committee). CQ seats in private colleges: Rs 5-10L/year. MQ seats: Rs 10-25L/year.

NRI quota in private colleges: Rs 20-50L/year.
DNB (Private Hospitals)
NBE-listed fee is Rs 1.25L/year (placeholder — actual hospital fees differ). Corporate hospitals charge training fees separately.

DNB fees are generally lower than private college MQ fees.
Deemed (MCC)
Deemed university MNG fees vary by speciality and institution. Typically Rs 15-50L/year.

NRI fees at deemed are typically 1.5-2x of MNG fees.
Section 9

Stipend & Bond

Government PG seats in AP come with stipend and service bond obligations.

50000
Min Govt Stipend / Month
Junior residents at district and peripheral government colleges.
96951
Max Govt Stipend / Month
Senior residents at AMC Visakhapatnam, Guntur MC, and SVIMS Tirupati.
Rs 25L
Bond Penalty (Govt)
AP government PG seats carry a 2-year compulsory service bond with Rs 25L penalty. Service in rural/underserved areas of AP. Moderate compared to Gujarat (Rs 1Cr) but significant.
2 yrs
Service Duration
Compulsory rural service of 2 years post-PG completion. Posted in primary health centres and area hospitals. Bond compliance tracked by NTRUHS.
AP Deposit Forfeiture Risk
In 2024-25, 156 PG doctors in AP forfeited deposits worth Rs 2.25 Crore by not joining after allotment. AP charges a non-refundable security deposit at the time of reporting. If you exit after allotment, this deposit is forfeited. DNB and deemed seats have no state service bond.

Private hospital (DNB) stipend ranges from Rs 10000 to Rs 60900/month.

Section 10

Key Insights

What makes AP PG counselling unique — and what to watch out for.

Local / Non-Local Rule
AP follows a 3-region Presidential Order: Coastal Andhra, Rayalaseema, and Uttarandhra. Students who studied 4+ years in a region are "local" there. State quota seats are distributed across these regions. This sub-divides the already competitive state pool.
5 BC Sub-types
AP has BCA to BCE categories with distinct reservation percentages. BC-B (10%) is the largest, BC-C (1%) the smallest. Your specific sub-type matters — a BC-A candidate competes in a different pool than BC-D. Always use your AP community certificate, not a central OBC certificate.
NTRUHS Process
NTRUHS conducts online counselling in multiple rounds with web-based option entry. Verification of certificates, domicile, and community happens at designated centres. Non-AP candidates can only access MQ/NRI seats, DNB, or deemed seats via MCC.
Non-Domicile Options
CQ = AP domicile only. But MQ (private, open merit), DNB (all seats), and deemed MNG (all seats) are open to non-domicile. AP's private college ecosystem in Guntur/Vijayawada has many MQ seats accessible to non-AP candidates.
Large Government Network
AP has 30 government institutes — one of the largest government PG networks in India. This means more seats at moderate ranks. New GMCs at Eluru, Machilipatnam, and Srikakulam have expanded capacity. SVIMS Tirupati is autonomous with its own selection process.
Private College MQ
AP has a large private medical college network. MQ seats are AFRC-regulated but accessible to non-domicile. Institutions like NRI Medical Sciences (Guntur) and Narayana Medical College (Nellore) offer significant MQ seats across multiple specialities.
