Overview

Three Routes at One College

ZMC has three distinct admission pathways. Each has different eligibility, authority, and domicile rules.

State Quota — 85 seats
Mizoram domicile required. Conducted by DHTE Mizoram (Directorate of Higher & Technical Education). Category-based reservation applies. Non-domicile candidates not eligible.
MCC AIQ — 15 seats
Open to all India. All-India Quota via MCC counselling at mcc.nic.in. No domicile restriction. UR closing rank ~21K–26K (2025). Category seats for OBC/SC/ST/EWS/PwD.
NRI Quota — 15 seats
Mizoram indigenous origin preferred per SC order WP(C) 689/2017. Fee: USD $20,000/yr. Conducted via DHTE Mizoram. Non-Mizoram NRI eligible but admitted only after all Mizoram NRI candidates.
Only one MBBS college in Mizoram
Zoram Medical College & Hospital, Falkawn, Aizawl is the only NMC-approved MBBS college in the state. Established 2016. 100 sanctioned seats. Run by the Government of Mizoram. All three admission routes feed into the same college — seat availability per route is fixed in the MCC seat matrix and state counselling notification each year.
Domicile

Domicile Rules

State Quota (85 seats) = Mizoram domicile only
State counselling via DHTE Mizoram is exclusively for candidates with Mizoram domicile. Non-Mizoram candidates cannot apply for the 85 state quota seats regardless of NEET score. The only non-domicile routes into ZMC are MCC AIQ (15 seats) and NRI quota (15 seats).
What qualifies as Mizoram domicile?
Candidates who have completed Class 10+2 from a school in Mizoram OR have a bonafide Mizoram domicile certificate issued by competent authority. Specific documentary requirements are notified by DHTE Mizoram each year.
Non-domicile options at ZMC
MCC AIQ: 15 seats, all-India merit, competitive (~21K–26K UR). NRI quota: 15 seats at USD $20,000/yr via DHTE, Mizoram indigenous preferred. No management quota exists at ZMC.
Scheduled Tribe (ST) reservation
Mizoram has a large ST population. State quota seats carry ST reservation per Mizoram state norms. Candidates with central ST certificate but non-Mizoram domicile are still ineligible for state quota.
NRI — Indigenous preference
Per SC WP(C) No. 689/2017, candidates of Mizoram indigenous origin with an NRI sponsor get first priority in NRI quota. Non-indigenous NRI/OCI candidates are on the general NRI waiting list and admitted only after all Mizoram-origin NRI candidates.

NRI Quota

NRI Quota — What You Must Know

15 seats · USD $20,000/yr · Mizoram indigenous preferred
NRI quota at ZMC is conducted via DHTE Mizoram, not MCC. Fee is in US dollars (USD $20,000 per year), not rupees. At current exchange rates (~₹84/USD), that is approximately ₹16.8L per year — total course cost roughly ₹75–84L. Mizoram indigenous origin candidates are given first preference per Supreme Court order.

Key insight: In 2025, candidates from Assam with NEET scores of 380–464 (AIR ~86K–253K) were on the waiting list despite higher scores, because Mizoram indigenous candidates with lower scores (134–290) were given priority. A non-Mizoram NRI candidate effectively needs a top-tier NEET score (~520+) to secure admission.

NRI Documents Required

Standard documents
Admit card + rank letter (NTA). Birth certificate. Class 10 & 12 certificates + mark sheets (attested). Proof of identity (Aadhaar/PAN/Passport).
NRI-specific documents
Sponsor’s Passport + Visa proving NRI status abroad. Relationship Affidavit (notarized) establishing blood relation between sponsor and candidate. Affidavit from sponsor to pay entire course fee (notarized). Embassy/Consulate Certificate of the sponsor.
Payment proof
Bank certificate showing exchange rate at time of payment. Fee must be paid in USD via wire transfer or DD in foreign currency. ₹30,000 admission fee additionally in INR.

State and AIQ seats pay the same govt fee of ₹66,850/yr. NRI fee is denominated in USD — exchange rate fluctuation applies. At USD/INR = 84, USD $20K ≈ ₹16.8L/yr.

Process

Two Parallel Counselling Processes

DHTE Mizoram (State + NRI)
Conducts state quota and NRI quota counselling. Provisional lists published on dhte.mizoram.gov.in. Document verification at DHTE office, Chaltlang Lily Veng, Aizawl. Contact: 0389-2340603.
MCC (AIQ)
Conducts MCC AIQ counselling at mcc.nic.in. Three rounds (R1, R2, R3) + stray vacancy round. All-India candidates. No domicile restriction. Register separately on mcc.nic.in.
NRI timeline
DHTE Mizoram typically publishes NRI provisional list in late July / early August. Document verification within 1–2 weeks of list publication. Candidates must attend in person at DHTE Aizawl.
NRI application process
Applications for NRI quota submitted to DHTE Mizoram directly (not via any portal). Application window typically opens shortly after NEET results. Watch dhte.mizoram.gov.in and ZMC admissions portal (zmc.edu.in) for notifications.
