Section 1

Why Assam is Different

Almost Entirely Government
Assam has 15 government colleges and zero private. This is rare in India. No management quota, no NRI quota headaches. Pure merit-based government counselling.
ST(H) and ST(P) Split
Assam splits Scheduled Tribe into ST(H) (Hills) and ST(P) (Plains). These are separate allotment pools with different closing ranks. Know which one you qualify for.
OBC/MOBC(NCL) + TGL
Assam uses OBC/MOBC(NCL) (OBC/More Other Backward Classes, Non-Creamy Layer) and has a TGL (Tea Garden Labourers) sub-category. Unique to Assam.
DME Assam (Directorate of Medical Education) conducts counselling
DME Assam conducts MBBS/BDS counselling for all government colleges via www.dme.assam.gov.in. AIIMS Guwahati goes through AIIMS counselling. No private college counselling needed. Online counselling process.
Admission Rules

Key Rules from 2025 Notice

Counselling Fee
Admission and counselling fees: approx. ₹25,000. Required at the time of reporting to the college along with original documents.
MBBS/BDS Admission Rule 2017
All admissions are provisional and subject to MBBS/BDS Admission Rule, 2017 (amended up to 2025). Candidates must fulfil all eligibility criteria at time of reporting.
PwD Verification
PwD candidates must report to Chief Superintendent, GMC Guwahati (Hospital premises) for disability status verification by Medical Board by 20 Aug 2025 (10:00 AM), failing which allotment cancelled.
Agreement & Dress Code
Must submit agreement within 15 days of admission in prescribed format at dme.assam.gov.in. College uniform is compulsory for all medical and dental colleges. Colleges prescribe dress code.
False Information = Criminal
Providing false information at time of online selection or admission is liable to cancellation + criminal proceedings. Documents verified at college reporting.
Documents at Reporting
Original admit cards, marksheets, pass certificates, caste certificate, HSLC/HSSLC or equivalent, as specified in MBBS/BDS Admission Rule 2017.

Fee Structure

All government = very affordable MBBS education.

Government = Very Affordable
All 15 colleges are government. Fees range from ₹10,000–50,000/yr. Total 4.5-year cost: ₹45K–2.25L. Among India's cheapest MBBS.
No Private Fee Headache
Unlike most states, Assam has no private college fee complexity. No management quota fees, no NRI premium. Pure government rates for all state seats.

Non-Domicile Access

State Quota = Assam domicile only
All seats require Assam domicile. Non-domicile options are very limited: MCC AIQ (15% of govt seats) and AIIMS Guwahati. No private NRI route available.
