5 NEET Counselling Facts That Will Change How You Pick a College

57 seats reopened at KMC Manipal in Round 2. AP private at Rs 16,500. 50 free MBBS seats in Sikkim. Data most families never see.

We analysed allotment data from 800 colleges across 25 states. These five facts change the counselling game.

1. KMC Manipal: 57 Seats Reopened in Round 2

212 students got KMC Manipal in Round 1. By Round 2, 57 of them had left — upgraded to AIIMS, top GMCs, or JIPMER.

Their seats? Filled by students who missed R1 closing (AIR 40,008) but got in during R2 (closing widened to AIR 43,835).

What this means: If you missed a college by a few thousand ranks in Round 1, don't panic. R2 often opens significant seats at top colleges. At KMC, 23% of seats turned over.

2. AP Private Colleges: Rs 16,500/Year for Domicile

The same AP private college charges three prices:

That's an 80x difference. An AP domicile student pays less per year than a single textbook costs at management quota.

3. Sikkim: 50 Students Get Free MBBS

At SMIMS Gangtok (Manipal group), 50 Sikkim domicile students pay Rs 0. Free tuition. Same classroom as management students paying Rs 35.2L/year.

And 34 "General" seats are open to any Indian at Rs 18.7L — the domicile fee, not management. No premium for being from outside Sikkim.

4. Only 0.7% Non-Domicile Got MP Private Seats

Madhya Pradesh technically opens private seats to non-domicile from Round 2. Reality? In 2025 mop-up round, only 6 out of 835 private allotments went to non-domicile students.

If you're non-domicile eyeing MP private, know that 99.3% of seats go to MP students. Budget accordingly.

5. Karnataka Deemed at Rs 1.5L — If You're Domicile

Yenepoya, KMC Mangalore, JSS Mysore — these deemed colleges charge Rs 17-24L via MCC.

But Karnataka domicile students can get the same colleges through KEA GOVT quota at Rs 1.5L/year. That's a 15x discount. 240 GOVT seats across 6 deemed colleges.

Your Turn

Every rank has a different story. The college that's expensive for one student might be affordable for another — depending on domicile, category, and quota.
